sw00231:
Fine Diminutive Mahogany Chippendale style Dumbwaiter

This table is a tour de force with a finely sculpted pie crust edge, all out of the solid with attention to detail the molding of form underneath each top as well as a carefully articulated top-edge molding the columnar shaft both on the upper and lower sections are beautifully carved with the feet supports decisively executed. All of fine mahogany.

sw00742:
A Mahogany Three-tier Dumbwaiter, probably American, c.1780

This dumbwaiter has beautifully figured wood throughout its three dishtop shelves. It has notable spiral urns and very delicate cabriole feet which have a slight ridge at the top reminiscent of Joseph Short's Newburyport work. This dumbwaiter is in superb original condition throughout, and retains its early casters.

sw01077:
A Figured Mahogany Two-tier Regency Dumbwaiter, England, c.1820

This is a good sized dumbwaiter coposed of beautifully figured solid mahogany throughout. Each of the serving shelves is highly figured and the decorative motif of reeding is repeated throughout, i.e. edge of top, supporting columns, and saber legs. This dumbwaiter has its original heavy-duty casters, which are mounted directly below the leg, see attached. This dumbwaiter is in immaculate condition and makes an extremely useful addition to a room's décor.

sw00933:
A Mahogany Chippendale Two-tier Dumbwaiter, England, c.1800

This is a most interesting and different dumbwaiter that is indeed extremely practical by having two large dishtop platforms instead of the usual descending two or three tiers. Also, each platform is supported not by a central column but by three nicely turned outer columns, which interestingly gives one a lot of serviceability. Further, each top is beautifully "dishtopped" with a series of turnings, giving each top a good sense of depth.

sw00387:
Mahogany Neoclassical Basin Stand with Columns, Boston, c.1830-40

This basin stand has a dramatic architectural form with a cylindrical revolving door behind two opposing hexagonal columns. The lift-top design of this basin stand was created to give a finished cabinet "genteel" look to the form, when not in use. The mahogany veneers throughout show great flame and complement the drama of the entire composition.

sw00467:
Mahogany Classical Washstand, possibly Providence, c.1835-40

This washstand is in superb condition and finely executed. Note the dovetailing of the back splat to its upper sides. Except for the crotch grained veneer drawer front, the exterior is all composed of the solid. The possible attribution to Providence is from a related labeled example in The Museum of the American China Trade, Milton, MA.

sw00499:
White Marble Rotating Pedestal, probably Turn of the Century

sw01434:
An Oval Pietra Dura Bird and Floral Marble, probably Japanese on a Victorian Rococo carved Gilt Wood Stand, late 19th century

This is an exquisite stand of hand water-leafed gold leaf that is matched to a magnificent Japanese stone mosaic of bird and flowers. The style of the scene emphasizes simplicity, and with the wonderful matching of the stones, this piece typifies its style of craftsmanship, especially as practiced during the Great Revival in the late 19th century. The stand is obviously Rococo, with French scrolls and a plethora of carved elements. Of its type, it's a good as it gets.

sw00672:
A Carved Walnut Griffon Stand with Marble and Jade Eyes, c.1870-1880

This stand is rather tall (40 in.) and is exquisitely carved throughout. This is a rare form that must have graced a fine hallway or drawing room. It retains its original marble, and the top platform swivels. This stand is in perfect condition.

sw01344:
A Carved Mahogany Dishtop Candlestand with Claw and Ball feet c.1780, Massachusetts

This is a very practical sized table with a desirable dishtop. The mahogany is very beautifully figured. Using highly figured woods like this in the top is explanation for the very slight curvature of the top as these woods often have a life of their own. For most antiquarians, this adds to the charm. See details for the wood figure. The column is of a baluster form with a number of ring turnings and the feet have classic Boston "rat's paw" claw and ball design.
